CBRN risk mitigation

The Government Chemist's role in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear risk mitigation.

Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) risks range from industrial accidents to deliberate attacks. Kenya takes part in the European Union CBRN Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence initiative, which helps partner countries strengthen their national capacity.

The Government Chemist is the national focal point for the initiative, and coordinates matters related to chemicals under the national CBRN risk mitigation initiatives.

The department's laboratories hold rapid CBRN detection systems, and it builds capacity for the National Police Service and emergency responders.
